The kitchen set was actually just a backstage area at Elstree Studios, and Kubrick's personal office was just around the corner in the same area. The food storage room that Wendy locks Jack in was a storage room where Kubrick stored camera equipment, old costumes, and other items related to his films. This was revealed in a video available online (from 1980) where Vivian Kubrick gives an extensive tour of Elstree Studios to a foreign journalist.
