According to Sir Anthony Hopkins, though he had played the role of King Lear before, this adaptation offered him the opportunity to play the character, backed by a much deeper understanding of who he is, since Hopkins was closer to King Lear's presumed age during this production, than he'd been when he tackled the role in the 1980s.
