This is the second comedic Western to feature a character played by Christopher Lloyd in love with a character played by Mary Steenburgen. Steenburgen's film debut was Verso il sud (1978), where Lloyd played a supporting character whose unrequited love for her further fuels his adversarial relationship with her husband played by Jack Nicholson.
