News about the project first broke in April 2018, with Eva Green, Kathy Bates and Ed Skrein due to star. Tim Robbins joined the cast in May 2018. For unknown reasons at the time, the production was delayed, which led to casting changes, with Kathy Bates, Ed Skrein and Tim Robbins dropping out, and Helen Hunt and Charles Dance joining at different stages. The filming location also had to switch from Dublin, Ireland, to Black Hangar Studios in England. News broke in August 2020 that leading actress Eva Green was the reason behind the continuous delays, eventually derailing the project with what production company White Lantern (Britannica) Ltd. called 'unreasonable demands'. She was sued in London's High Court for allegedly derailing the sci-fi thriller, as the production was forced to shut down when she walked away from the movie, on a claim that estates that Green owes it more than GBP1mil, and should also compensate them for lost "profits that the film would have generated". On her part, Green, who was also an executive producer, started legal proceedings of her own against White Lantern (Britannica) Ltd., in July 2020, stating that she had a "pay or play" agreement, entitling her to a GBP800,000 fee even though the project was abandoned. She is also seeking to have the film company pay her legal costs. The rival claims have been submitted to the court, but as of August 2020 they have yet to go before a judge.
