Carrie had a younger sister in the first season of the show, Sara Spooner, played by Lisa Rieffel. She was presented as an irresponsible aspiring actress. After only 5 episodes, the character disappeared without explanation, and was only mentioned one more time in Episode 53 by Doug. Kevin James was asked in an interview why Sara was written out, and he revealed that the writers of the show could not think of any storylines to develop her character, so she was instead discontinued. Subsequent episodes reveal that Sara Spooner was retconned out of existence, and Carrie is now an only child.
