Hans-Michael Rehberg plays Rudolf Hoess. This is the only film featuring that character in which he is not portrayed by Günther Maria Halmer, and also the only film with that character in which the other characters are not mainly fictional. Halmer played the role in La scelta di Sophie (1982) and Ricordi di guerra (1988). He also appeared in Gandhi (1982) with Ben Kingsley.
