Michael Dorn, who had played the Klingon Starfleet Lieutenant Worf on Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987) and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993), was contacted for a role during the start of filming and was asked to play an officer. Eventually, the filmmakers decided that "they didn't want to mix the old with the new" and cut him out. The exception was the inclusion of Section 31 (referenced throughout Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) and Enterprise (2001)) as part of the film's plot, which Admiral Marcus is a leading member.
