May Calamawy said both Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke were thoroughly invested in making sure she felt comfortable and heard on set. She told Indiewire on May 4, 2022 that she felt really intimidated in the beginning and didn't want to do anything wrong. She noticed the ease with which her co-stars worked and threw in ideas for their characters, but she wasn't getting any ideas at the time. As they went along and she developed more confidence, those ideas started to come. She was so anxious that she had a block and felt guilty. She spoke to Hawke about it and he assured her it wasn't a competition. Unlike her co-stars, she didn't feel comfortable in suggesting ideas directly to the directors, she said she found comfort in speaking to Isaac or Hawke and then they ran the idea by the directors. Calamawy said she looks forward to the day when she will be more vocal. "It's how we're [women] raised. We see the inequality everywhere. I was hard on myself many times because I was like, why can't I just throw myself out there the same way? But we're almost conditioned that way."
