This film is one of the only adaptations of Stephen King's novels that King himself always remembered hating for years and years and he still doesn't like it now. However, King did say that after he had saw Doctor Sleep (2019) - an adaptation of King's novel of the same name and a sequel to his novel "The Shining" - he now appreciates Kubrick's film a lot more (the 2019 movie is a direct sequel to the 1980 film). King had also said in the past that he really didn't care or pay much attention to the film adaptations of his novels.
