In Series 12, Chris Chibnall retconned the show by introducing an unknown female incarnation played by actress Jo Martin whom is revealed to be an earlier incarnation whom came before William Hartnell. In Series 8, Clara Oswald met The Doctor as a little boy and in Series 9, Missy claimed that she knew The Doctor since The Doctor was a little girl. If so, The Doctor would had first regenerated as a child and regenerated into a girl and this would mean William Hartnell is the 3rd Doctor and David Tennant would had been the 13th Doctor and since it's been established that Time Lords can only have 12 regenerations, the Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi and Jodie Whittaker incarnations wouldn't had happened and this would had contradicted the rules of regeneration.
