The idea of a sequel to this film was scrapped, but in the 1990s there was a sequel in the form of a television miniseries. The series was Rossella (1994), based on the sequel novel of the same name. Joanne Whalley was cast as Scarlett and 'Timothy Dalton' was cast as Rhett.
