According to production designer Jack Fisk, the interior of Aunt Ruth's apartment building was build to have an Old Hollywood look. Fisk states, "You know, I was inspired by the old apartment buildings in Hollywood. Some of them were spectacular. With the, um, fireplaces, the carved woods, you know in the doors." He goes on to say that these things would've been fascinating to a young actress coming into Hollywood.
