The end of the final fight between Picard and Shinzon (his younger clone) echoes the legend of King Arthur in Sir Thomas Mallory's "Le Morte d'Arthur". On the battlefield of Arthur's last battle, the King runs a spear through Mordred, his evil illegitimate son. With the last of his strength, Mordred impales himself even further onto the spear to be within striking distance of his father, and lands a mortal sword blow to King Arthur's head.
