The film is a remake of Salaam Memsaab, China Town, Mr.India (1961),Double Man (1967), All these film were made from the novel "Legacy of a Spy" by Henry .S. Maxfield. Years later Inspector Dhanush starring Vishnu Vardhan was remade with Don's script. In 1976, Subhash Ghai attempted a a similar plot in Kalicharan . In 1992, Vinod Khanna did the film Humshakal with a similar plot.
