Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman approached Leonard Nimoy to voice the Fallen while the three of them worked on Star Trek (2009). Nimoy voiced Galvatron, Megatron's successor, in Transformers - The Movie (1986). Michael Bay was nervous about approaching a relative (Nimoy is married to Bay's cousin), particularly a famous one: "I just feel kind of bad about asking him. 'I can't pay you that much, but would you do this voice?'"Nimoy later said that he was enthusiastic about voicing a Transformer and would have loved to be the Fallen; he would later get the role of Sentinel Prime in Transformers 3 (2011).
