In the 1970s, Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld worked together on the New York comedy club circuit. In 1980, he joined the ABC for their Il Saturday Night Live (1975) knock-off, Fridays (1980), where he worked alongside Michael Richards (Cosmo Kramer). In the mid 1980s, he was hired as a writer on Saturday Night Live (1975) and met Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Elaine Benes). Jason Alexander (George Costanza) was the only regular Seinfeld cast member he hadn't met before.
