Interested in using the Mercer House, the home owned by the real Jim Williams and now owned by Williams' sister Dorothy Kingery, Clint Eastwood had approached her. Kingery initially was worried, given the potential damage a Hollywood production could inflict on the house. Eastwood flew to Georgia the next day to meet with her and they agreed the house could be used to film only party scenes in the house while fighting and shooting scenes would have to be shot in a studio. Kingery had two conditions: that the house antiques would be kept safe and the party extras had to be made up of locals who knew she and Jim Williams.
