John Goodman's character tries to avoid paying for 2 beers by evading Richard Dreyfuss' bet that he's going to tell him what the airbase reminds him of. Moments later, he's forced to pay for the beers/bet because he can't stop himself from saying it: the base reminds him of 'the war in Europe'. Similarly, in the movie, The Big Lebowski, Goodman's character can't stop himself from repeatedly referring to the war in 'Nam' (Vietnam).
