An octopus is the traditional symbol of the criminal organization S.P.E.C.T.R.E. (SPecial Executive for Counterintelligence, Terrorism, Revenge, and Extortion). The name of the criminal organization in the James Bond video game Dalla Russia con amore (2005) is O.C.T.O.P.U.S., which was used instead of S.P.E.C.T.R.E. at the time for legal reasons.
