It's funny that this character is the same character who is the witch in the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. Both characters are adaptations of the classic Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale the Snow Queen about a young woman who can cause the snow to fall and blizzards to blast; even turning whole cities into snow and ice sometimes. She is the ruler of the "snow bees", little bees that look like snow flakes, and with their help she terrorizes the towns around around her; riding along in a sled and a fur coat; much like the White Witch does in the Narnia take. She kidnaps a young girl in town named Gerda, and steals her away to her ice palace; much like the White Witch does to Edmund in Lion Witch and Wardrobe. Eventually Gerda is rescued by her best friend Kai before she turns into the next Snow Queen. Elsa is the iconic snow queen in this movie; or rather she's an amalgamation of the Snow Queen and Gerda, the girl she kidnaps to be her successor. Elsa is very obviously good in this story. She does not struggle with the temptation of evil and power like Gerda does, and she is not an all out villain like the Snow Queen. But she's definitely based on that character. Jadis, the White Witch, is another adaptation of the Snow Queen, one of Narnia author CS Lewis's favorite stories. He openly said in interviews that Jadis is indeed another iteration of the Snow Queen, kind of a visiting character from another story; just like Santa Claus makes an appearance, and Fenris Ulf, the famous wolf from Norse Mythology, does as well. Narnia is just the Snow Queen put in a Christian context, the Snow Queen vs Christ (or Aslan) if you will. So the Snow Queen spawned two totally different iterations: Elsa, who is another Disney Princess, and Jadis, who is essentially Satan in disguise.
