Sir Patrick Stewart enjoyed James McAvoy's light-hearted performance as Charles Xavier in X-Men - L'inizio (2011), and had wanted to try a similar performance with Xavier, instead of keeping him grave and sober. He got his wish with this movie: in the altered future, his Xavier is just a bit jollier.
