The runaway stagecoach scene highlights just how dangerous horse stunts are. When the stuntman, as Maverick, leaps to the lead pair of horses one of them stumbles and nearly falls. Given the speed at which the team is galloping this could very well have proved fatal for the stuntman and the entire team had it not regained it's footing and kept running.
