During Bilbo's birthday party, Gandalf is shown setting off fireworks that explode into elaborate shapes and designs. The first one shown at the party very briefly (barely over a split-second) takes the form of a beautiful tree before turning into glittering gems that slowly rain down on the party-goers who catch them excitedly. Given the fact that most of J.R.R. Tolkien's inspiration for his literary universe comes from Nordic Mythology and Legends, it's possible the tree-shape is based on Yggdrasil.
