Christian Bale had a connection to co-stars Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Renner prior to this film. Bale won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Fighter (2010), competing against Renner who was also nominated for The Town (2010). Meanwhile Cooper parodied Bale on Saturday Night Live in a skit called No Bruce, Let Me Finish! which was inspired by Bale's infamous rant from the set of Terminator Salvation (2009).
