In the opening narration, Father Lamont says Father Merrin first encountered Pazuzu 40 years before the original movie, which would be in either 1933 or 1935. However, both versions of the Exorcist prequels (showing Merrin's first meeting with Pazuzu) are set in the 1940s (1947 and 1949). So the prequels totally ignore this film.
