Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Netflix offered a reported 200 million for the right to show the film on it's platform, Warner media blocked any potential sales since it holds a 25% stake in the film. Instead it announced plans to release the film on HBO Max and theaters simultaneously. Like it did with Wonder woman 1984 (2020) allegedly Legendary was furious about this initial decision but the details were worked out behind the scenes and everyone seemed to be on the same page.
