At the beginning of the series' third season (its first in syndication after it was initially canceled by NBC), Ed (Harvey Korman) and Eunice Higgins (Carol Burnett) were written out of the show. To explain their absence, the writers had Eunice and Ed move to Florida leaving their son Bubba (Allan Kayser) in Thelma Harper's care.
