In January 2016, it was announced that Paramount Pictures had decided to not to go ahead with the planned two sequels, in favor of Baywatch (2017), a feature film based on the television series Baywatch (1989). Later, Paramount came back on its decision, stating that it would produce Terminator - Destino oscuro (2019) with the collaboration of original creator James Cameron, with an option for more sequels.
