A possible explanation for the ending is that the earlier the cloud is travelled through the later in the future you come out the other side. In the beginning the chimp goes through first followed closely by Mark Walhberg and then weeks/months later the space station. As the space station went through much later it appeared much earlier in the past. The chimp arrives last as it went through first. It can be assumed that years after Mark Walhberg left Thade followed and therefore he could appear several hundred years earlier on Earth.
