O'Brien came in for ridicule with the close-ups of the scorpions, with their immovable bug eyes and massive drool. Ironically, in "The Scene We've Never Seen", the spider pit from "King Kong", it's reported that the same disaster plagued the insects in that film. Producer Merian Cooper thought the heads and faces were too comical for the gravity of the scene.
