US Army soldiers can be seen firing several Carl Gustav recoilless rifles at the tripod. Even though this weapon is only used by special forces units in the US military, not regular infantry as shown in the film, when aliens attack you scavenge what you can. Another weapon used in the final battle scene of the movie is the FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank guided missile launcher, used by US Army soldiers to attack a tripod. An army squad leader is heard calling for one of his men to bring 'the javelin'. Despite the squad leader saying that the tripod will require a "top kill" (utilizing the missile's top-attack mode), the soldiers fire the missiles straight at the tripod, which the Javelin cannot actually do as even its direct attack profile climbs and descends diagonally.
