Contrary to popular belief, actor (and future United States President) Ronald Reagan was never slated to star as Rick. Producer Hal B. Wallis had had Humphrey Bogart in mind from the very beginning. Though, due to Reagan's popularity gaining at that time there could have been talks of him in the lead role of the film by executives.
