Like David Lynch's television series I segreti di Twin Peaks (1990), this films concerns itself with the unpleasant reality that underlies the seemingly idyllic appearance of life in a small town. Hope Lange appeared in a similar film, I peccatori di Peyton (1957), opposite future Twin Peaks cast member Russ Tamblyn. Laura Dern also appeared on the final season.
