Han Solo is reportedly modeled after George Lucas' friend, director Francis Ford Coppola, and two aspects of his character mirror two of Coppola's most famous films. Solo accepts a job flying Luke across the galaxy in order to pay off crime boss Jabba the Hutt. This is a reversal of real life, in which producing THX-1138 bankrupted Zoetrope Studios, and was persuaded by Lucas to direct The Godfather (about a crime boss), which got him out of debt. In this film, Solo leads the Endor expedition, in which the Ewoks are inspired by the Viet Cong, and the climactic battle is based on Lucas's original idea for the ending of Apocalypse Now. While his character in this film is modeled after Coppola, Harrison Ford's character in Apocalypse Now is named Col. G. Lucas.
