The song that Pete sings to Debbie in an effort to demonstrate what he considers to be a great song is "Rooster" by Alice in Chains. It was written by the band's guitarist, Jerry Cantrell, in honor of his father, a Vietnam veteran who earned the title moniker during his service. Along with references to The Pixies and Nirvana elsewhere in the movie it makes Pete a true, dyed-in-flannel Gen Xer who, age appropriately, would be 40 in 2012.
