In 2008, Kathleen Kennedy, one of the producers of Il curioso caso di Benjamin Button (2008), after giving some details of the plot, asked David Fincher to read Stieg Larsson's book. Fincher responded by saying, "Kat, nobody is going to make this movie. You're just setting us up to be miserable again." So he didn't read it.
