According to Amy Heckerling, Phoebe Cates was initially reluctant to carry out her character's poolside topless scene at the house in West Hills because she thought the neighbours might be spying on the set from the surrounding rooftops. Heckerling joked with her that millions of people were going to see her naked when the film came out, so a couple of neighbors seeing her shouldn't be a big deal.
