Originally, the premise of the series was that Edna Garrett, the housekeeper on Il mio amico Arnold (1978), became the headmistress at the school that Kimberly Drummond (Dana Plato) attended. However, after the pilot episode, the producers decided to keep Plato on Il mio amico Arnold (1978). There was never any mention of Kimberly being a student at Eastland again, and Mrs. Garrett became the house mother.
