John Wayne was very annoyed when promotional events were postponed for a week following the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Wayne strongly disliked Kennedy and blamed him for losing the Bay of Pigs invasion and for giving in to Soviet demands during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He also felt Kennedy's "sabre-rattling" was to blame for the Soviets deciding to build the Berlin Wall in August 1961, and strongly disapproved of his handling of the Vietnam War.
