Deadline confirmed, with the outlet revealing that 'The Lion King 2' is officially in the works. The only thing is, Jon Favreau won't be returning to direct. Instead, Moonlight helmer Barry Jenkins will replace him behind the camera, with Jeff Nathanson who penned the script for the 2019 remake, back on writing duties once more. No release date has been set, and it's unclear who, exactly, from the cast will return, but we imagine that most of the major players will be back. Deadline notes that "the story will further explore the mythology of the characters, including Mufasa's origin story."
