The series was not offered to the Fox network, despite being co-owned with the show's lead production company, 20th Century Fox Television, at the time production began. This is because the creators of the show had issues with how the network treated their previous series, "Back to You". In 2019, Disney, owner of the show's network, ABC, acquired most of 21st Century Fox, including 20th Century Fox, after certain assets, including the Fox network, were spun off into a new company.
