Dawn, Iris and Cilan are the only main characters, besides Ash, to battle a Gym Leader from their native region: Dawn battled Gardenia (in a Tag Battle with Ash) in Pokémon: Natane and Sabonea! Farewell to Whom!? (2007) and Maylene in Pokémon: Crossing the Battle Line! (2008), Cilan battled Skyla in Pokémon: Cilan Takes Flight! (2012) and Iris battled Drayden in Pokémon: Soryu Gym! Iris VS Shaga!! (2012).
