In 2017, a cast interview during San Diego Comic Con sparked controversy and outrage from fans after Chris Wood and Jeremy Jordan seemed unsympathetic with this fact (their comments were seen as homophobic), whereas Katie McGrath had a more receptive reaction. Brenda Strong also has fondly acknowledged this shipping, joking she would have to kill Supergirl as a daughter-in-law.
