Naomi Watts found the masturbation scene the most difficult to film. To make her feel more comfortable during filming, Lynch had a small tent cover her head so she wouldn't have to see the cast and crew. David Lynch directed and guided Watts througout the scene but refused to cut, even when she felt most distressed. He wanted to make the scene as real and raw as possible for the final cut.
