The opening sequences on Krypton involving Jor-El's theft of the Codex and Zod's temporary insurrection, while completely visually different than that of Richard Donner's Superman, contains more than a few references to the original Superman movie. Most notable are the scenes where Zod and his insurgents are condemned to the Phantom Zone and Krypton's actual destruction.
