After the success of Dick Wolf's Chicago franchise (Chicago Fire (2012), Chicago P.D. (2014) and Chicago Med (2015)) on NBC, Wolf made a deal with NBC on February 27th 2020 to create 3 new Law & Order spin-offs these included Law & Order: criminalità organizzata (2021) staring Christopher Meloni, Law & Order: Hate Crimes, which is still waiting to be officially green lit and Law & Order: For the Defense, which was canceled before the show could be cast. After the cancellation of Law & Order For the Defense it was later announced on September 28, 2021, that a 21st season of the original Law & Order had been ordered for a revival series.
