A couple of months prior to the film's release date, Relativity Media, most likely due to the mild success of their earlier spy film 3 Days to Kill (2014), wanted to edit the film down to a PG-13 rating to get a broader audience who wouldn't have to wait for DVD or sneak in to watch it. However, due to the film's violence, language, and mature content, the film was released with an R-rating for its U.S. theatrical release.
