According to Joseph Mascolo, original director John D. Hancock's shooting script included scenes that fleshed out Len Peterson's character; in particular, Peterson's mob connections, as mentioned in the Howard Sackler/Dorothy Tristan screenplay. Some of the scenes were filmed with Dana Elcar, but once Hancock was fired, those were scrapped, much to Mascolo's disappointment, as he had taken over the role from Elcar for director Jeannot Szwarc.
