In Transformers (1984), there were two sportscar brothers named Sideswipe and Sunstreaker. Sideswipe had already been selected as a single character. When Michael Bay saw the Chevrolet Trax and Beat, he thought they looked good together and had the potential to be as cool as any big truck. The Twins were altered to miniature automobiles, and were renamed Skids (after the Autobot from the 1980s "Transformer" comics) and Mudflap (after the Transformers: Cybertron (2005) Autobot).
