It's established straight off the bat that the cinematic version of Flint Marko has a sympathetic motive for his crimes: he needs to raise money to fund his sick daughter's medical treatment. By contrast, the comic book Marko never had a wife or biological daughter and was a much nastier and far less sympathetic character. He debuted in 'Nothing Can Stop... the Sandman!' (Amazing Spider-Man Vol 1 #4, September 1963).
